More than ever before, both businesses and NPOs alike need assistance in every way possible, be it funding, skills, or those that are eager to actively participate. The Affiliate Support Programme is a collaborated and coordinated effort, to address these issues. By offering assistance where possible in the field that each is proficient in, as a whole are looking to uplift our global society into a better position. It is with humbled gratitude, that these organizations are presented below.
The Narcissistic Abuse Support Group (NASG) was born from a desire to help those who were hurting – others who, like myself, had been devastated by abusive relationships. It began on the 24th of March 2018 in Bryanston, Johannesburg.
The motivation to start the group was because no one understands narcissistic abuse, unless they themselves have been subjected to it. It’s an incredibly lonely, frustrating, miserable, devastating and soul-destroying place to be in. I believed that if one began a group where victims who truly understand narcissistic abuse were able to meet one another, empathise, assist and listen as they shared their experiences and challenges, it would be key to validation and ultimately, healing.
MatrixMen is the first organization in South Africa to support men that have suffered abuse and sexual abuse as children. We started as support groups 11 years ago. It was a difficult time as men don't really believe that they are allowed to talk about the abuses that they suffered as children. Over the years we evolved to support men through divorce, men in domestic violence situations, and men struggling with anger management issues. We believe as a rule that everything that you are enduring today is firmly rooted in your childhood and once we deal with all of that your life will begin to change.
Our programs are designed to highlight the dysfunctions that you suffered as a child and deal with them. We often have men tell us that a teacher or family friend abused them as a child, but as we go through the program they realize that perhaps their brothers were abusive, or that their parents were perhaps dysfunctional. Its a tough thing to deal with but it is life changing. The transformations that we have seen have been remarkable as men evolve into their true selves.
Close to sixty percent of South African children are growing up without a present and engaged father. Research shows that fatherlessness is the single biggest driver of violent crime globally. By failing to father our children South Africa has been growing an army of dangerous men. We have the highest rate of rape and gender-based violence (GBV) in the world. Our murder rate is almost 8 times higher than the USA and 37 times higher than the UK!
Men who have had an absent or abusive father grow up wounded. And if they’ve had no male mentors or role models to teach them good, positive masculinity they often have a distorted concept of what it means to be a man. Wounded men with false notions of what it means to be a man are the primary cause of masculine abuse in all its forms. This is not something that will self-correct. Wounded men raise wounded boys who become wounded men who wound. We need to break the cycle. Unless we deal decisively with this our future is in very real danger.
